You are correct.

Preventing too many ties at the end of the game is the main reason why I'm testing it out now with the "loser" entry. I started him out with 200, which seems like a reasonable starting amount for a two week game. We'll see how long it takes me to reach a low score, and then I'll adjust the starting amounts accordingly.
Unfortunately, I blew it last night, as my regular "sam" entry lost money and my "loser" entry gained money.
