And the new terms of service make you give up rights to anything on your site to Yahoo!, which kind of sucks if you are a professional writer or artist. So, a lot of people now boycott Geocities and it's not nearly as good as it was before, but it's still one of the best home pages I've ever had so I haven't changed from it. > > Mel"Hater of Yahoo! Since classicgames.com and egroups.com were sucked in"anie
Geocities had people mad at it a lot before it was purchased by Yahoo! ... but not quite so many. Still, "better than the alternatives" comes to mind. If you're broke, or a student (synonyms!), you've got to look for free things, and ... I worked with Crosswinds for awhile and it was a living hell. ;-)
Directlt FTPing through AOL works for me, if you don't mind the fact that you get disconnected from the FTP server every ten minutes or so and having to download, edit, then delete the file on the server - getting randomly disconnected from time to time - and then uploading your file every single time you want to change /anything/. Plus, when I do finally leave home in a few months, I won't be able to edit /anything/ because they want you to use their horrid personal publisher thingie and I won't have easy access to AOL ... oh, well, will cross that bridge when I come to it.
I've been annoyed enough with Geocities/Yahoo! to avoid using them after what they did to my mailing lists. When I send something to a mailing list there is no bloody reason for it to take a month and a half to show up.
Anyway. Brief rant from an often-lurker ... catching up. :-P Or trying to catch up, anyway.
