When I say "islands", I include tiny little ones as well, not just the main island of whatever country it is. I'm not saying Internet access is *common* in these places, just that it's available if you want it (and, in some cases, if you put in a lot of effort of your own to get it). This is the case with almost every modern commodity on a remote island, in fact.

Now that I've posted this, I should add that although I've never been to Tokelau, I hung out with the Tokelauan government's Minister of Works and Public Development, or whatever his title was, during a week I spent in a backpacker's hostel in Samoa several years ago. He was staying in the same place and, although I forget his name, he was very nice in a seven-feet-tall, five-feet-wide sort of way. He was staying in Samoa for some arcane governmental reason involving road construction, and (this being the Pacific) was of course staying in a backpacker's hostel.

When I was leaving, he asked to buy all my used and ancient dive gear, to take back to Tokelau. The only thing that fit him was the snorkel, but he explained that on Tokelau you can't get stuff, so you buy what you can when you get the chance. There's certain to be *somebody* back home who will buy it from you, or swap for something else you need.

He also gave me a handful of cash so I could buy a dive mask back home and mail it to him, which I did. I hope he got it and it fit. I bought the hugest, widest dive mask I could find.
