cover art was done by Darrell K. Sweet.
Michael Whelan is, I think, best known for his
illustrations for Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders
of Pern series. That's where I first
encountered his work, at least, and it's a pity
that the newer books don't have cover art by
him.

There I go again, mixing up my books and
authors and artists. Blast. But I do think
Michael Whelan illustrated at least one of the
Xanth covers... methinks it was "Centaur
Aisle." The one with the wyverns on the cover,
anyway.
