Groan. That pun was a *horrible* revelation. I wouldn't be surprised if it caused a mass exodus from the Forum. I can't count the numbers of people who might now commit acts of violence due to that pun. It should be flushed down the john!

Now that THAT'S done with... I'm not exactly sure how people managed without dentists. Probably with lots of icky teeth and missing teeth, although their diets wouldn't (in most cases) have been as sugar-high as ours are... I've heard things about some cultures using sticks dipped in water as a toothbrush type thing, but I don't know.
