When my mother was born, they were expecting her to be a boy (don't ask me why). The name they had picked out was Samuel Joseph (names of her grandfathers, I believe), but when they found that wouldn't work, they changed her name to Verna Jane. Verna, after her grandmother Vernie (yes, Vernie). She HATES her name and goes by V.J., which leads to confusing introductions ("B.J.? D.J.? C.J.?"). She always wondered why they didn't change Samuel Jospeh a bit and make it Samantha Jo.
Me, my middle name is Jay. It was my maternal grandmother's middle name.
