a 2000 compatibility pack (similar to the XP
compatibility pack, but apparently it doesn't
come standard with 2000) that allows 2000 to
run most 9x software pretty well. If he can get
his hands on that, I'd install that and see how
it works. If it doesn't work, or if he's already
installed it, then the upgrade to XP would be
good for him.

He's already using the so-called
"compatability pack." In fact, that very thing is
the main reason he did choose to go with
2000 instead of ME. He figured it'd be more
stable but he'd still be able to play his game.
But it isn't working out very well.

you can deal with the insane instability of ME
or not. If you can live with it, there's probably
not a whole lot of point in plopping down the
mad cash for the XP upgrade. But if you want
stability, XP is the way to go.

I'll probaby end up going with XP eventually. I
just wish there was a way I could test it out
first without plunking down the cash. I'd hate to
get it and then find out it's not worth it.

And that is?
