This is not a joke. It's really true.
A close family member has given us a car. Not just any car, but a 1957 Volkswagen with the small oval rear window and fabric sunroof. We had a little bug that we bought new in 1960, and my wife really loved that car. She cried when we sold it. The whole extended family knew how attached she was to it. So naturally when this old bug became available, she got it. It's in need of much restoration, but we are going to send it to "The Bug Man" for a complete going over. It is going to cost a bundle -- I could restore several scooters for that kind of dough. But at least it won't come out of my scooter account.

I suppose this is the end of my dream of restoring a 1946 Ford, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Some of you whippersnappers might wonder why anybody would want a car with no air conditioning, a weak heater, a four speed shift with no sycronization in the first gear, a 36 horsepower, air cooled engine with a howling fan, a carburator, breaker-point ignition, six volt battery, no air bag, and the engine in the back.
If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand.

I'll keep everybody posted on this project, and with a little luck, I'll post pictures on my web site in about a year. Well, I might post "before" pictures earlier than that.
Howard
