That's great, Howard. Had you stayed in touch with him?

A couple of weeks ago, I visited my hometown. My best friend Chrisy drove up from Florida, and we met up with two other members of our own close-knit group, Gus and Trevor.

Chrisy and I have stayed very close since graduation, and but we hadn't spoken to the guys in years. The four of us have very different lives now, in different parts of the country. I was worried that we'd have nothing to talk about.

The meeting was slightly awkward at first, but as the conversation got rolling, I realized that I really *knew* those people. The superficial traits had changed, and we've all matured a lot, but the personalities hadn't changed that much.

We actually got along even better than we did in high school, because many old insecurities and petty arguments just didn't exist.

There was a surprisingly little amount of time spent reminicsing. Although Gus and Chrisy did recite a limerick about me which Trevor composed in eleventh grade.

Anyway, my time spent with old friends reaffirmed my belief that people don't really change, they only become more themselves.
