How long ago was that? I only ask because on my birthday last year (April 25th, if anyone's interested...no? that's a surprise) me and my family went off to Dover Castle for the day. Great place, that, complete with interactive tours and so on...what am I talking about? I thought this was about hovercrafts. > > Anyway, when we were in the castle we could see a hovercraft starting up in the port. They do indeed rule, sounding as they do like aeroplanes starting up, and skimming around all over the place. As I was saying, however, it was certainly there, and if it wasn't going cross-channel where was it going? There were a couple of SeaCats around the place too... > > Phil-"My dad gets to see the SeaCats everyday..."-bee
I thought the cross-Channel hovercraft had been scrapped a couple of years ago. I can't say I really remember, though. I also can't say I'm particuarly upset: the Channel is nearly as rough as the North Sea, and on anything less than glassy calm, they were sea sickness monsters. And more often than not the Channel is too rough for them to be ale to sail at all.
The Coast Guard has started using hovercraft, but mostly on tidal mudflats like at Minehead. Dover (being cliffs) isn't well suited for that kind of thing. And besides, you'd have been able to tell the difference in size.
So, in conclusion, I donm't know.
