Well, Lucas *has* been known to throw out disinformation about his movies from time to time to protect the mystery.
But, once I thought about it for awhile, it doesn't seem all that bad. I don't know why people dis "The Phantom Menace" as a title, really. I thought it was pretty good. I probably would have prefered just "The Clone Wars", but that would have had much less pizazz. Look at it this way:
The Phantom Menace Attack of the Clones ??? A New Hope The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi
It doesn't really seem too out of place to me in that sequence. As long as Episode III isn't "Wiping My Butt With Your Money" I don't see much of a problem.
Also, remember that RotJ was originally "Revenge of the Jedi" and Lucas changed it at the last minute (either because he decided he didn't think "Revenge" was a propper Jedi pursuit or to avoid confusion with "Star Trek II: The Revenge of Khan"--later renamed "Wrath of Khan". Take your pick) so nothing says that "Attack of the Clones" is written in stone.
