Actually, it wasn't so bad that it came in second because it was only 15 seconds behind an 800hp Paseo that was passing cars that were two classes above it. > > > > I think you'd have liked this weekend, Howard. . They had every class of car . .stock cars, formula cars, GT-1,2,and 3 class road cars (the CRX was GT-3 class) and more. . And considering the $20 admission got you in to all races, and let you wander through the pits and talk to the crews, it was pretty reasonable entertainment. > > > > Then after the races, the CRX club I'm in got to run a little road race ourself. You haven't had fun 'till you're going 121mph downhill, hit a 90 degree hairpin turn, brake to 70mph in less than a second, almost get yanked out of your seat by the forces in the turn, then blast out at 90mph. >:) Sure, because of all that I now need new tires, but it was worth it ;) > I can't top that, so I'll throw in this little yarn: > In the summer of '96(make that 1996) I spent a week at Charlotte Motor Speedway at a Cushman Club National Meet. We saw Legends cars, Indy cars and even a few stock cars. The Legends were the only ones actually racing. But the highlight of the meet for me was riding my 1947 Cushman around the big oval 14 times. They let us go out for a few laps each day at noon and I was out there three different times. At 25 or 30 miles per hour, I stayed right down on the white line, because there were faster scooters out there. Now everytime I watch a race on that track, I can imagine that big red scooter chugging along the bottom of the track . > Howard
I remember reading an anecdote a long time ago that a bunch of NASCAR guys got themselves hurt before a big race 'cause they spied some golf carts in the infield and started racing 'em, and tipped 'em over. *grin*
A cushman on a race track. I like it >:) We had a similar one on Sunday, only it wasn't sanctioned. Some nut on a moped drove around the barriers and popped out on the race track while the Formula Continental and Formula Atlantic races were being run. . . . . . fortunately, the field was 2 miles away on the other side of the track at the time, but when they're doing 2:15ish laps, that doesn't give 'em much time. . . A bunch of guys in orange suits ran out and tackled the guy, and dragged him and his moped off the track. I was mad 'cause I'd put my camera back in my car fearing the rain that was supposed to start. . . I'd have loved a shot of all that ;)
