Hmm.... the others have already said almost everything, but I can suggest going to the library and looking for short story collections. I've recently found a small volume of Bulgarian science fiction stories, and some of those are real gems. Of course, they were easier for me to find than they will be for you, considering the past of this part of Germany, but I'm sure you'll find something.
Try to get Christopher Tolkien's History of Middle Earth series for interesting information on the development of the various myths and languages and all that.
Have you noticed that there are three people called Terry in your good author list, but none in your bad author list?
