Since the original post hinged on the words "I would think," I suspect you are.
Nonetheless, it's interesting to bandy about possible psychological factors that would tend to skew the distribution. Clearly there IS a psychological impact -- if you ask a thousand people to pick a number from 1-4, you will almost always get 3 the most times, then 2, then 4, and then 1.
Until we do an actual experiment to see what distribution results from asking people to pick a number from 1-100, there isn't a lot of point in refuting hypotheses just because of a difference in speculation.
