One of the things that I'm not particularly proud of in England (among plenty of other things) is the behaviour of London motorists. One of my friends who lives in London told me that once, he saw an American tourist in London, crossing when the green man was showing. Fair enough, you might think. However, when the tourist was half-way across, the green man started to blink (if you're not familiar with British traffic lights, that means "cars can go, but give way to pedestrians". In anyother city in England, that's probably what it would have meant, but in London, it means "cars have right of way so get off the crossing now, can't be my fault if you get run over." The poor woman had to jump for her life as the cars roared ahead, paying no attention to the possibility of cold-blooded murder.

I'd like to make it clear to any Americans (or other nationalities reading this) that this is not how we all drive. It's only in London. Actually, I wonder why that is? Something in the water?
