I know a couple of people who say stuff like "I'm a vegetarian except for fish", or worse, "...except for chicken and fish".

My stock reply is "Really? I'm a non-smoker except for cigarettes".

The way I see it, a vegetarian doesn't eat meat, and the last time I checked, fish and chicken were made out of meat, so the term I would use is "non vegetarian".
