I have had to get up an extra half hour earlier* just to be sure I have enough time to de-lint, because apparently I live in a very linty environment. This is what I used to do, so don't take it as gospel (there might be a more efficient and sanitary way of doing it... Anyone know? I haven't worn contacts for years.)

Anyway, before you take your contact lens out of solution, and before putting them back into fresh solution, always wash your hands very, very thoroughly. Then skip the hand-towel drying part -- just shake off excess water and handle the lens with wet hands! You won't get any fabric lint on them that way. If you're standing under a bright light, you'll notice that even after washing your hands, there will still be "lint dust" on the lens and in the lens solution. Don't panic. Those are just tiny translucent skin cells from your hands, and you really can't eliminate them completely from the lens when you put the latter into your eyes.

Oh, and an incidental note about storing lens for any prolonged period. Once the soaking solution comes in contact with the lens to disinfect them, it only retains its germ-killing properties for about one week. After that you need to replace the solution with fresh disinfectant. I don't know why no one warns lens-wearers about this. Also, you don't want to put germy lens into your eyes because the weakest point of immune-system response in your body is through your eyeballs. That's something else I didn't know until recently.
