I started reading before the train pulled out of the station, read more or less constantly for the whole nine-hour journey, and still only managed to get halfway through. It took me at least a week to finish the other half.

Since it was impossible to open the book to those pages without separating them, I deduce that I was the first to read that far, even though I wasn't the first to take the book out of the library.

Heck yeah, I'm ussually a fast reader, but I didn't finish the first half before we finished with the book in class. Our prof. is a bit batty, we only spent about a week on 'King Hereafter' and by the end of this week we are going to have finished with 'Mary Queen of Scots' another big long book.
