By Dorothy Dunnett? My, but that's a long book. I was the first person ever to read the local library's copy all the way through[1].

It's a lovely book, but very very long.

I went on holiday about a month ago, and I saved 'King Hereafter' to read on the train back. I started reading before the train pulled out of the station, read more or less constantly for the whole nine-hour journey, and still only managed to get halfway through. It took me at least a week to finish the other half.

It's a great book though.

But have I mentioned how long it is? ;o)

[1] The pages hadn't been cut 100% properly, and some adjacent pages were still attached to each other at the corners. Since it was impossible to open the book to those pages without separating them, I deduce that I was the first to read that far, even though I wasn't the first to take the book out of the library.
