My grandparents bought a farm many years ago and when the young grandchildren came over (that's me), we would explore all of the barns and sheds surrounding the farm. One day, my brother and I found a suitcase full of what appeared to be newspapers. They were, of course, but they were newspapers from the 1900's-1920's. Also in the suitcase were 70 year old diaries, one of them being of a young school girl. It was full of the usual young girl talk, and it brought home how little people change.
There was one other thing in there, a hymn book dated 1896. It also had obituary notices pasted iside the covers, from 1890's newspapers. I still have that book somewhere.
I think that was one of those times when I felt like I was in an episode of The Secret Garden, and I'd travelled back in time.
