If you're trying to lead a perfect life, you're putting effort into a lost cause. People are human and therefore fallible and quite prone to sin or error. Just when your pride tells you there's no way you could ever commit some particular act, along comes a series of trying circumstances that you may or may not succumb to but which at least illustrate how you very well *could* succumb if the temptation were worse.

From a Christian perspective, the guilt you feel is nothing new. "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." I've been where you are and would be still if I did not believe that Christ died for me for the express purpose of making it possible for me to be forgiven. From that point, well, it does not make sense for me not to forgive myself if God has forgiven me already. Although sometimes I still find it hard to forgive myself my transgressions, it feels foolish not to. Any wrong I did was only wrong because God said it was, and if he says I'm forgiven and that that wrongdoing is no longer imputed to me, what's the point of insisting to torture myself over it?

I don't want to get too evangelic here, but at the same time your post warrants a reply, and this reply is what I have to give. You claim that you cannot be forgiven. But God became flesh, endured persecution and then execution, then conquered death by rising from the grave...all so you *could* be forgiven.
