We've only had M.O.'s for the last what...100-150 years or so? That certainly didn't keep anyone from being buried or having babies. If there were no M.O's, the world would continue. We got along without them before, we could certainly do it again. In fact, that probably goes for most professions. Granted, our lifestyle and daily routines might be drastically changed. But people would find a way to survive and cope. Isn't that our very nature??

All I know of Rumi is that he was a 13th century poet who (I believe) lived in what is now Turkey. As for any of his works, I'm afraid I'm not familiar with them at all.

When I wrote that people's nature is to survive and cope, I based that on our history. People have always managed to survive even the most extreme circumstances. From war to plague to famine (and whoever the other Horseman is ;-) ), people have always managed to survive and adapt. My whole point was simply that the absence of one profession would certainly have an impact on us, but it would not be the end of us.
