I don't make friends well with people my own age, but I do make friends well with people older than myself. It doesn't bug me much, and I expect the age difference to flatten out as time goes on. But anyway, what ria mentioned above is incredibly common and entirely stupid. Because of my odd class schedule, I don't need to hang around school during the short lunch break, so I never do. There are only two possible conversations at a highschool lunch table, it seems. First, guys will compete to think up the most puerile, degrading, uninteresting sexual acts possible. There's no rescuing a conversation from this, so usually it's best just to leave. Second, the people at the table will pick a random person to criticize every facet of their life; the only qualification is that the person cannot be there to defend themselves. I hate this second one with a passion, and have never to participate in one in my life. This type of conversation can be sidetracked to something interesting with a little skill.

That's one of the reasons I love my youth group and RinkChat--we can actually talk the way it should be done.
