Envy? No need!

At one time, somebody looked at you at that age, and thought of you as the future. They probably figured you would live most of your life in the 20th century, and would have a very good chance at seeing the 21st. You would see things they had never dreamed of. They wondered how far you would go.

Now look back at your life, at the "future". Have you lived up to their expectations? Based on the stories you tell here, I think that you have. But when you feel that envy, just think that Baby Grishny (or any other child) will probably grow up as I did-- feeling an envy for the things that they did not see, the things in the past... And you can be satisfied in the knowledge that the past holds treasures just as great of those held by the future.
