My old roommates ordered food to go (or "takeaway," for NZ people) one day and brought it home. The smell drove me out of the apartment and I actually showed up at work 20 minutes early, for lack of anywhere else to go. I suppose if I ever get hungry enough, I could try ordering "Fish and chips, minus the fish," but maybe I'd rather lose the weight instead of eating fries that were tainted by being cooked in the same building as fish.

Wow. I had no idea... "Fish and Chips" is such an institution here that I figured it was kinda universal, like "hamburgers and fries". Well, OK, maybe not universal (I'm sure there are parts of Asia or Africa that have no concept of hamburgers and fries) but at least common across North America... I mean, I remember Highliner Fish and Chips TV commercials from when I was a little kid. One might try to argue that I only know them because I am coastal, but I live an hour's drive east of the Rocky mountains, and haven't lived closer to the coast since I was two months old. Oh, and I just noticed a typo in my post that Elly replied to. BLAST!!!
