Well, bright and early Friday morning Jacqueline and I will be driving a van full of eight kids in their early teens to a weekend retreat in Pennsylvania, an annual event put together by our church denomination.
Last year's retreat was somewhat disastrous. The kids in our group were up all night running in the halls and yelling out the windows to other kids in another building, which negatively affected not only my wife's ability to sleep, but her whole weltanschauung, so to say. The kids skipped out on mandatory meetings and generally showed the utmost reluctance to participate in anything other than basketball. To top things off, Jacqueline got a stomach virus or something and could only stay in her room and eat soup broth, the provision of which required multiple trips up and down an outdoor flight of approximately 53,977 concrete steps. I returned from the weekend strengthened in spirit and in my calves.
Anyway, in the event that this becomes my last-ever post to Rinkworks, it will be due to my head spontaneously exploding upon having to tell the kids, for the sixty-eighth time, to stop climbing over the van seats, sit down, and put their seat belts on. Otherwise, I'll see y'all next Tuesday or so!
