Sunny days, keeping the clouds away... posted by Sosiqui on Monday, March 19, 2001, at 18:34:10:
> I thought this would make for a fun discussion topic. :) Yesterday, there was a Biography special on A & E about Sesame Street. Now, I don't know how many of you watched that show when you were little (or watch it when your kids do, or just watch it now, or whatever), but I lived for that show when I was a kid. :) And watching that special made me feel all nostalgic, going "Oh, I remember seeing that!" "That was my FAVORITE sketch!" and such.
In Grade 6, there was a TV in our class, and our teacher always put it on first thing in the morning. Everyone would come to school an hour early just so we could watch Sesame Street. It wasn't cool to watch it at home with little brothers/sisters.
> > So I raise the question: if you watched Sesame Street at some point in your life, who was your favorite character? Is there a favorite part you liked, a certain segment you liked very much? Maybe a Sesame Street book that you loved? :) > > Me, I loved Grover. :) He was way bigger than Elmo when I was a kid. I especially loved Super Grover! And my favorite book of all was a book with Grover in it - There's A Monster At The End Of This Book. Heehee. :) I also liked Snuffy, and another bunch of characters that seem to be forgotten today - the Twiddlebugs.
Yes, I too loved Grover, and Super Grover. And I was a closet Oscar the Grouch fan. The Count was pretty cool, too...Ar Ar Ar (thunder sounds) > > As for segments, I'll never forget the ones with the little alien guys. ("Ra-di-o. Ra-di-o! Uh huh, uh huh, yep yep yep yep, uh huh, yep yep yep yep!")
YEEEESSS!! And their telephone! Brrrrrrooong! I also used to love the scenes when Bert and Ernie were trying to get to sleep, and Ernie's ingenious ways of trying, counting sheep, fire trucks, etc, tap dancing himself to sleep, drumming himself to sleep....and how could I forget the boogie woogie sheep!
> I also remember watching different versions of Sesame Street. When living in Holland, my sister often watched the Dutch version, Sesam Straat. I don't remember much of that, but I do remember that their version of Big Bird was light blue, not yellow. And before we moved to Holland, they had a special where they aired some episodes of Shalom Sesame, a Hebrew version. It was all in English, but you learned about places in Israel and about the Hebrew alphabet. That was cool.
In Australia, we just got the American version, but it was always quite outdated, so the fashions were pretty daggy. But it didn't stop us watching it :-)
And btw, I like the original music that was used, not the funkier version that came in later.
