Well, I have a counterpoint.

I use in-name quotes here for three reasons:

1) I have something witty to say.
2) I have a final word I want to put in.
3) It feels wrong not to have one.

Even if the first two don't apply, the third always does. I'm at the point now where I automatically type Don " when I start typing my name, and sometimes, I don't have anything to say. I either come up with something, or keep it short. As for the reasoning of not taking up space with it, well, most of my posts are wastes of space anyway (IMO) so adding another 30 to 50 bytes of waste at the end of a kB or two of waste is not a big deal for me. The tradition aspect of it also seems important to me-- I would rather see people cropping the previous posts better and keeping in-name quotes than vice-versa. But then, I love a good tradition. :-)
