I too would be far less forgiving of something that I paid for as opposed to something given to me for free.

I don't know a thing about PETZ, but for most groups which put out free services on the net, they gain something back on it in the long run, even if it isn't a direct monetary gain. No one's going to put out a lot of hard work for no gain (unless forced), whether that gain be monetary, a trade of ideas, or satisfaction in the work.

Sam, for instance, doesn't require an entrance fee for Rinkworks. When I first came here I was sure someone was getting paid some big bucks to run this site. Not so. Yet he is receiving a payment of some sort that keeps him enthusiastic about running the site.

So perhaps the venture isn't worthwhile to PETZ anymore. Otherwise, it seems they've made a really bad judgement call in not warning those who use their product of the bugs.
