I've been troubleshooting this thing since Thursday and have made no headway. I'm hoping someone out there will have an idea.
Here's the problem. I just upgraded from an SE440BX motherboard/PII-400 chip combo to a Gigabyte GA-7IXE4 motherboard/AMD Athlon 1ghz chip combo. Everything's working except the game port on the SB Live soundcard. Whenever it tries to install that, the system freezes.
Here's what i've done -reinstalled windows -installed every driver that came on the motherboard disc -updated the PCI-ISA bridge driver -moved the soundcard to every PCI slot available. None worked, but any slot other than PCI3 caused the modem (on ISA2) to stop responding. -Moved the modem between ISA2 and ISA1. This produced no effect whatsoever.
here's the full system configuration: Win98 Gigabyte GA-7IXE4 motherboard AMD 1ghz Athlon Thunderbird chip 128mb ram 2 IDE HD's SB Live value PCI sound on PCI3 Diamond Supra Express ISA modem on ISA2 Creative 3d Annihilator 2 video on AGP
i've exhausted everything I can think of to get this thing to work. Anyone have any ideas?
