I appreciate Sam's courage in going all the way for us, here, in taking considerable pains to decipher this dispute -- quite literally putting his neck to the block, as it were. Sam has one of the highest honesty integrities that I know, for which I greatly admire while looking up to him.

But Grishny, this may sound strange, yet I'd like to affirm your original observation: "Personally, I think it's wrong to laugh or joke about sin." Hold to that thought. I believe your original instinct on the matter is in fact correct. Unfortunately, I can't get into it right now, as I'm about to be kicked off this server. I'll try to post later tonight. I also have some thoughts on the basic nature of 'humour' and what's it's not, and how I feebly try to tell the difference, anyway.

You wrote, "I am a hypocrite, and I know it. I DO joke about things I shouldn't. I DO laugh at things I oughtn't. The flesh, the old man, the dark side-whatever you want to call it-is still very much with me. I struggle with it. We all do." This is something gut-wrenching, a theme that's been running in my letters to Sam for years, and I want to thank you for so powerfully touching a resonant chord within me. Whew.
