What is it with remaking old games? They're one of two things:
1) They're essentially film licenses, but based on a game instead of a film.
*cough* marketing scheme *cough*
2) They're a copy of the classic, but with better graphics.
Playing them generally leaves you a bit hollow, because you remember how shallow these games were. We've become used to dynamically structured campaigns, worlds that bend themselves to our will and force us to bend to theirs. Getting a bunch of frogs to the top of the screen is a retro (I hate myself for that) novelty. That's not to say they're not fun. Classic games are a different set of game; you can walk into an arcade, put a 20p in the slot, and have a go. Compare that to the modern idea of computer games, where the idea is to devote entire evenings to playing. Would you pay full price for Asteroids?
And while you're at it, could you direct me to the original point of this thread? I appear to be lost.
