I suggest you reread the final chapter in "The Code Book" where the author writes about quantum cryptography, and why it is completely unbreakable (it essentially uses a new, totally random, one time pad for each message encrypted). Granted, the technology doesn't exist on any sort of mass scale yet, but it's rather feasible to believe that in a few years it will.
