With ophood comes great responsibility. Sure, you have all these neat little powers (woo, I can make red text!), but as many current ops might be apt to tell you, being an op can be a pain sometimes because it's YOUR responsibility (at least when an admin isn't around) to moderate the chat room. If someone breaks a rule, or becomes obstinate and harassing, YOU are the one who has to deal with it. > > Of course, all that *really* only applies to the perm-ops. A brownie point for Grishny! Yes, us ops can sometimes be silly, such as the occasional Op War between myself and Ticia, but there is also a fair amount of responsibility involved. We're there to help Sam out, and sometimes it becomes a bit tricky. If we kick people out of the chatroom, they tend to come back in and demand an explanation. Granted, we are not required to give an explanation, but I personally feel that I should be able to give one. For that reason, I don't kick someone unless I can explain my reasoning. I like people until they make me think otherwise of them, and I like to give them a chance. When I take action and kick someone, it's as if I'm saying, "I don't like you!" For me, that is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.
As for campaigning to be an op, I don't think that works very well. On second thought, it doesn't work at all. I have nothing against putting labels such as [op] and [admin] next to our names in chat because it can be a lot of fun and can lead to some hilarious jokes. However, I don't think that really makes Sam think, "Oh, look at that label! I should make that person an op!"
On a side note, if labels did come true, just imagine what would happen if you accidentally labeled yourself [pig]!
