Sure, you have all these neat little powers (woo, I can make red text!), but as many current ops might be apt to tell you, being an op can be a pain sometimes because it's YOUR responsibility (at least when an admin isn't around) to moderate the chat room. If someone breaks a rule, or becomes obstinate and harassing, YOU are the one who has to deal with it.

We're there to help Sam out, and sometimes it becomes a bit tricky. If we kick people out of the chatroom, they tend to come back in and demand an explanation. Granted, we are not required to give an explanation, but I personally feel that I should be able to give one. For that reason, I don't kick someone unless I can explain my reasoning. I like people until they make me think otherwise of them, and I like to give them a chance. When I take action and kick someone, it's as if I'm saying, "I don't like you!" For me, that is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

I have nothing against putting labels such as [op] and [admin] next to our names in chat because it can be a lot of fun and can lead to some hilarious jokes. However, I don't think that really makes Sam think, "Oh, look at that label! I should make that person an op!"

I had already come to the conclusion that I didn't want to be an op (not as big a thrill as I would have hoped, and the only thing I have ever wanted to do was change topics, and I don't even want to do THAT very often anymore) and this concept of "repsonsibility" just makes it worse. Mainly, I would have the same problems that you have mentioned-- I am not mean enough to kick someone even if they ARE deserving of it. Banning someone? Couldn't do it.

This just occurred to me: I was in no way insinuating that you were a pig. :-)
