Like the "unsinkable" Titanic, in a way.

The "unknown" is outside the walls, therefore, the "known" is inside, and all seems well. But something happens that forces the unknown through the mental barrier and into contact with the known. Nothing seems the way the speaker thought; nothing seems well. The speaker would rather keep the unknown out than take the time to get to know it, but the unknown will almost surely break through again. How much better it is to make the unknown known.

Okay...

Scenario 1(The one I'm leaning toward):

The speaker did something wrong and is asking to be forgiven. The wronged one is taking awhile to decide whether or not to.

Scenario 2:
Same, but reversed.
