We also visited my sister in Ontario, Calif. and attended a five day teacher's convention. It took five weeks. We spent between $600 and $700, not counting a second hand car that we bought in Steamboat Springs.

The three older kids talk about it a lot and they all still love to camp. Sam,who was only four at the time, doesn't remember much, but we assure him that he had a good time. He thought the orangatangs at the San Francisco zoo were the funniest thing he had ever seen. He laughted so hard he lost his breath and had a crowd of people watching him! He also liked Dinosaur National Monument. The others still remember the fake gold mine that had been built in the basement of the old mint in Carson City. The rest of the building was a fantastic museum. I hope it still is. LaBrea tar pits in LA were also a big hit.
