> Right, so ripping out somebody's intestines and winding them up while sort of playing with them like a harp is just run of the mill gory? Sorry, The Cell was whack. There was a lot of violence and imagery that goes beyond what is normal in an R movie, though I suspect not that much more than what is in some slasher movies....
Aack. Well, against my better judgment, in early 1999 I watched all the Nightmare, Friday, and Halloween movies in succession (Why? Tired of not knowing what anybody was talking about when these film series came up. I did not see them at age -2, like most of my peers seem to have.) and I never saw anything quite that bad. (Once in a while it was close.) In such a scene, the gore isn't even the worst part -- it's the perversion with which it is handled by the characters. This kind of thing doesn't belong in the same ratings classification that also holds "The Insider" and "Erin Brockovich."
