The US Constitution explicitly states that new ammendments can (and should) be added and, if necessary, taken away. That is what makes the US Constitution and our forefathers great: they realize that they can be wrong. And they obviously have been: they owned slaves and didn't give women any of the same rights as men (e.g. voting). Changes to the Constitution can be made while still preserving our system of government.
