I thought they took spice to utilize their mental powers...Anyway, I seem to recall that in the book, the guy Muad'Dib fought at the end was Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, Baron Harkonnen's other son (other than Beast Rabban). I really need to go out and rent that movie...and I don't think the beheading of Rabban was in the book. I could be wrong, though. > > Cor"Oh, when I was trying to find an alias, 'Kwisatz_Haderach' was already taken"rino
Hmmm...you may be right, because Sting's character in the movie was named Feyd...but in the movie I didn't get the impression that he was Harkonnen's son. Perhaps that was another "liberty" taken by the creators of the film.
Lots of people use the spice in Dune...the Spacer Guild Pilots use it to heighten their mental awareness and fold space...the Bene Gesserit use it, or rather use some sort of "liquid spice extract" stuff to make the transition from postulant to "Reverend Mother." The Fremen are constantly breathing it, which is what makes their eyes blue-in-blue. Muad'dib used it to become the Kwizatz-Haderach.
But I don't remember the Mentats ever using anything but that juice that stains their lips.
