Sounds like symptoms of a heat problem. There are two fans. Sometimes a third mounted directly to the case, but it shouldn't be that much of a concern. There is one on the processor and one in the power supply. If either of these are not turning the heat can cause the problems you are experiencing. If one of them was clogged it still may not be turning fast enough to be cooling properly. You might also check the other one if only one was cleaned.
Another possibility is memory. If you know someone, or have a good computer store near you, have them run diags. on the RAM and CACHE (pronounced CASH) to see if there are any problems with them.
The RAM is definately a possibility, but I'd lean more toward heat myself.
