I found out that the "125" on the side of the train meant "miles-per-hour!" That train was so fast, it built up a pressure wave that hurt your ears when you went into a tunnel!
That it does! Actually, they rarely get up to 125, but they still cruise at 110+ on a long run. > > > On the other hand, I can try and get around London on the M25 (A notorious British Motorway that has given people nightmares!) in rush hour and takes three and a half hours to go 75 miles. You wouldn't say that great if you knew the Northern Line underground. However I have to agree that it is a good way to get around > > > But I will say, we have a different culture here. I have driven in the US and found that if I wanted to go city-to-city by car it would probably take a week. > > It depends on what city to what city. > I can drive to Atlanta or Nashville in three hours. Myrtle Beach takes about seven. New Orleans takes all day and Lincoln, Nebraska or Key West, Florida take almost two days. I think I could make it to Los Angeles in four or Boston in two, but I usually fly and rent a car on those longer trips. West of the Mississippi River the traffic is not so bad and you can really cover the miles in a day's time.
I have found that you are more relaxed on the roads. We can get everywhere in one day so the average motorway speed tends to be 90+. I drove through the Mojave desert at 55 for four hours. I rarely got passed and the scenery didn't change apart from the occasional truckstop! It does make for safer roads in the US though.
