As it turns out, she was out of oil. But that's not what they told her. This girl, a rather intelligent person, was absolutely convinced that she was out of blinker fluid. I wish I could have heard the conversation when she told her father why she needed to be picked up...

Aye!!!!! You'd think any person of reasonable intelligence could figure out that a light bulb tends *not* to require fluid to operate properly.
Hey, here's my oil story...
It was the summer of '87, Reagan was still president, and Frasier was still a character on 'Cheers'. I was replacing the engine in my '79 Mustang with a 302 from a '68 Mustang. Needless to say, there was some customizing to be done. At the bottom of the engine, you can find the oil pickup tube, which simply reaches into the bottom of the oil pan to suck oil back up into the engine. For this particular operation, I needed a longer tube in order to reach down into the sump (the lowest part, where the drain plug is). The part that was special ordered was too short. My "advisor" said that it should work fine if I splice a hose into the middle of the tube (which is made of metal for rigidity). Needless to say, this was a bad idea.
Once the whole job was completed, I managed to drive it for about a week, making extra adjustments and so forth, until one day it just made this awful grinding noise and came to a screeching halt. I checked the oil, just to make sure that my level was okay, and I found plenty of oil... it just had metal shavings in it. Appearantly, the pickup tube had sucked itself to the bottom of the pan, thus starving the engine of that much needed lubrication. I had to replace the engine, again.

Tra "With that engine in that light car, I sure could smoke the tires" nio
