I use a similar technique to clip kitty claws. (The cats actually belong to my roommate....don't ask why I am stuck with this fun job.) I wrap a cat up in a big sheet so that just the head and one paw sticks out and then I clip quickly. It works because at first the cats think I am playing, and by the time they realize what is really happening to them, they are powerless. Well, and one of the cats PURRS the whole time I am doing it, which makes the job a lot easier.
