mmm, the joys of welcoming 8th graders.... what my group does for that is crazy evil funny cool. We have a weekly event called Thursday Breakfast Club (TBC). During the spring and fall, every Thursday about 50 high schoolers go to the church (or other various places such as the mall or the bowling alley) at 6:00 and spend about an hour eating breakfast, hanging out, playing games, watching skits, stuff like that. It's sooo much fun, I love it... but the welcoming the 8th graders bit. heh. They're told that they're allowed to come to all the TBCs in May... so the last TBC in April, we kidnap them for it. We call their parents a week in advance and make sure it's all okay, then at 5:30 on Thursday morning, you go to their house, wake them up, and take them to TBC in their pajamas. It's hilarious actually doing it.... this year I was kidnapping a girl...
"Good morning, Tricia. Get up and come with me."
"Why?"
"Because I said so. Now come on."
"Oh."
And she DID it! People are so funny at 5:30 in the morning.
Anyway, they then have to sit in the little chairs at the little tables from the Pre-K rooms at church, and they wear bibs and drink out of bottles... It is, overall, an extremely funny event.
I was never kidnapped, because I didn't join the group till 9th grade, but most of my friends were, and I rather wish I had been.... You would think the kids would catch on, but Every Year we tell the 8th graders that we got in a lot of trouble for it the year before, some kid got hurt and the parents were angry, it's illegal (something like that) so we're not gonna do it this year.... and every single year they believe us. It's so funny!

>My youth pastor asked a group of us to come up with some good ideas of things to capture. Naturally, I decided to post for some help here, since you all are so . . . rinky.

Heh, I did this last summer with my youth group, so I have some really funny ones that we did...

Find two people holding hands. Walk up to them and ask if they're married. If not, ask if you can come to their wedding.

Film your entire group frolicing through a park/playground.

Stand in front of a store and film your entire group doing an interpretive dance.

Write a limerick. film your entire group saying it.

If there's a catherdral anywhere around where you live, film someone acting like the Hunchback of Notre Dame in front of it.

Go to a gas station and ask if you can fill your car with 42 cents worth of gas.

Get a stranger to say something in another language.

Find someone who was born in another country. Ask them questions about the country.

Help someone carry their groceries to their car.

hmm.... it was almost a year ago, so i don't remember a whole lot of the ones they had us do, and some of them depended upon our location (being DC).... but if you live in a place with famous monuments or landmarks or jsut stuff people there would know about, you can do stuff like getting tons of extra points for filming your gruop at every one of (list several locations)... stuff like that. Anyway, I hope some of those work, have fun, and let us know how it goes!

uni"flooded with memories now.... gosh, those were the good old days"peg
