> I know, I KNOW. I figured that part out. What I want to know is *why*. At all the drive-throughs I've ever seen, the staff person at the window can *see* if there's a car coming. So what does the weight sensor *do*?

It starts the timer going inside the restaurant so the managers, bosses, and CEOs know how LONG you had to wait in the drive-though. Some companies have limits, and if one restaurant is consistently over the limit, it reflects back on the manager, and occasionally results in firing, or at least a lower pay raise than other managers.

And actually, at Carl's Jr. it's not a weight sensor. Instead, it's a metal detector that isn't sensitive enough to be set off by something like a coin.

My fiancé has told me stories of his days as manager at a Carl's Jr. when he was in high school. To lower their wait-time averages, if business got really slow, a couple of employees would go outside and move a large sheet of metal back and forth over the sensor a bunch of times.

So does/did anybody actually work at a fast food place, and if so, have you ever heard of this? I thought it was hilarious, personally.
