Mleh. Well, this was a disappointing year for me, as far as Oscars are concerned. The only three I felt really confident with were American Beauty for best picture and best original screenplay, and Michael Caine for best supporting actor (despite what everyone else said ;-}). And, as it turns out, I was right. I think my big problem this year was that I chose who I thought *should* have won in several categories rather than who the academy would *pick.* I *knew* "You'll Be in My Heart" would win best original song, yet for some reason I didn't pick it. Ditto for the tech awards and "The Matrix" (I can't deny that the visuals were impressive, even if that's about the best thing I have to say for it). The categories that really surprised me were best actor and actress. Kevin Spacey and Hilary Swank? Gah. I think the world must be coming to an end - they were my *last* choices in their respective categories. Oh well; I can find some solace in the knowledge that not only did Michael Caine take best supporting actor, that annoying little kid from "The Sixth Sense" did *not.* That makes me happy. :-}

And, as much as "Sleepy Hollow" was trashy, the art direction *was* excellent. That's the one category that I picked what I thought should win rather than what I thought would win and actually came out on top. :-}

Dar "Eagerly awaiting my comeback next year" ien
