My car's name is Max. Now, this confuses some people, because Max is female (aren't all vehicles?), but the name isn't short for Maxine. It's short for Miracle Max, from The Princess Bride. Shortly after I got it, one of my friends told me that all the Volvos she'd ever known were named after characters from the Princess Bride. Max is a big old gray station wagon, so I decided that the old gray character from the movie was an appropriate one to name her after. It took about a year to get all my friends and family to call her Max, and about the time they started, I stopped. So, now my parents call my car Max, and I just call it "my car" :)
