Biking... posted by Finchplucker on Monday, January 17, 2000, at 17:18:16:
Biking, eh? Hmmm, biking is my main way of transportation, but I've been to the Katy Trail in Missouri several times. If you've never heard of it (of course you haven't), it's a bike trail that's roughly 185 miles that follows the original railroad through Missouri. You can see a few rivers on said trail, but I don't think any are significant. Last time I was there was late September, when the leaves were changing colors, and it was really pretty. We were going to go 7 miles (I wanted to go more than 14 miles, but nobody else did...) up to some riverside "café", and come back to the bike rental place (it is easier to rent bikes than haul your own...). It didn't go so smoothly, I was riding ahead of the group, when some bird spotted my shirt and used it as a bathroom (*gag*). I promptly went back to the bike rental shop and bought a new shirt. We rode the next 7 miles fairly quickly, and found out this "café" was closed, probably permanently. No big loss. We started back to the bike rental place, and next thing I know, there's a nail through my back tire. Wonderful. That was one of the more memorable trips. We did make it back, though.
