I think I have it figured out.

Apparently, don't bribe the unicorns until you need their favor, then after that, everytime you visit their meadow do nothing else except use their favor and you will be able to use their favor an unlimited number of times. If you visit their meadow and then leave, the next time you want their favor you will have to bribe them again.

I have achieved a tie for low score by using their favor 3 times and only bribing them once.
Of course, someone else may find a way to get an even lower score.
